Art fair, spring walk

Had a busy past few weeks! Sold my art at an art fair in a small town north of here! I had a great time and talked to some amazing people who really loved and got what I was trying to do with my art. It was awesome! I sold an original painting, and it was a little heartbreaking to let it go. Goodbye painting, I hope you enjoy your new home! It was this one: Now I am resting and preparing for my next fair. It’s going to be a big one, I can’t wait! Yesterday I went for a walk to meet a friend for lunch. It was snowing! Come on winter, please go away! Walked past a pretty yoga studio with some nice pamphlets. They had a beautiful gate behind it with gorgeous colors. Maybe spring really is coming though! Go away snow, don’t come back again. How is your spring so far?

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted but in my defense it’s been a whirlwind – unexpected travel for unfortunate circumstances, a ton of hard-hitting news, migraines almost every other day… no thank you, seriously. Can you maybe drop me some good news and no migraines (or at least no news), universe? Maybe just for a week? This is what it’s been like around here. Very quiet, very gray, and very very sleepy. At least someone’s alert (even if she is laying on my fluffy new blanket that belongs to me and not her). Anyway, here is some art I’ve done. I’m super proud of this one! It was the first time I REALLY focused on getting watercolor “right” on the face. I actually had someone request a print of this as a custom order through my Etsy, so I might offer it as prints in general if anyone is interested (HINT HINT oh jeez I’m so bad at marketing). My first gouache face in a style I’ve been practicing! I super love this one too but I’m not sure it’s to other people’s taste. And a landscape. I find them weirdly soothing. I’ve been painting a TON but it’s weird […]

Sketchbook hack

I don’t think I’m the only one who has the issue of the BLANK FIRST PAGE in a sketchbook. It’s so intimidating – it’s really tricky to figure out exactly what to put on the first page that won’t “ruin” the sketchbook. My neuroses around sketchbooks run even deeper, though – once I fill out that first page, I feel intimidated by the next page, and the next one afterward! I hate flipping through a sketchbook and seeing a series of bad sketches during art block or periods where I’m busy or just not producing work up to my top quality. I know that’s a very silly attitude to have around sketchbooks, given that they’re meant for practice and mistakes, but that’s just the way it is with me. I discovered something that really helps, a technique that has made me infinitely more prolific in my sketchbook and less stressed about it too. I wanted to pass it on for anyone experience art block or feeling neurotic and paralyzed while using their sketchbook. Don’t go in order. No really. Flip to a random page and fill it in. If you feel weird about that, date it or number it. Then, […]
